Woman Hits Riverside Victim In Head With Hammer: Police

Police are asking for help in locating a woman accused of attacking a Long Island mother with a hammer and pushing her child.

The incident happened Monday, Oct. 30 in Riverside, according to Suffolk County Police.

Detectives said Ligia Lopez-Menendez, age 37, went to a friend’s home and pushed the woman’s child before striking the woman in the head with a hammer.

The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Her child was not injured.

At the time, the victim had an order of protection against Lopez-Menendez.

Police did not speculate on what may have led up to the attack.

Lopez-Menendez is described as 5-foot-4 and 160 pounds with long brown hair. She has ties to Flanders, Riverside, and Hampton Bays.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
